If one has gone through deliverance from the work of the enemy in their life, why are they still caught in the same cycles, living unchanged? Where’s the transformation and life in the Spirit that Jesus paid for?
God gave me a revelation and understanding of these questions that pressed on my heart after working with so many people who seem to go right back into those same ruts, remaining bound to their old nature versus living free as a new creation in Christ. I wrote about it in my latest book, Ripple Effect:
“When an evil spirit leaves a person, it goes into the desert, searching for rest. But when it finds none, it says, ‘I will return to the person I came from.’ So it returns and finds that its former home is all swept and in order. Then the spirit finds seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they all enter the person and live there. And so that person is worse off than before.” As he was speaking, a woman in the crowd called out, “God bless your mother—the womb from which you came, and the breasts that nursed you!” Jesus replied, “But even more blessed are all who hear the Word of God and put it into practice.” — Luke 11:24-28 (NLT)
“When I was reading these passages several years ago, what jumped out at me was the answer to the question, ‘if one has gone through deliverance, why aren’t they living transformed?’ It is found in the brief conversation Jesus had with the woman who shouted from the crowd, ‘even more blessed is the one who hears the Word of God and puts it into practice.’
We can chase after all the ministries, read all the books written, have a powerful encounter with God at every conference, and go to class after class, but if we do not put into practice what the Word of God says and live it out for ourselves, we are that man whose house was swept clean but never put new things in the place of what was there before. The enemy sees the vacancy and knows he just needs to move right back in through thought patterns and circumstances that trigger us, and we go right back to that old way of thinking, and living.”
There are so many methods and ideas we’ve adopted in the church that have complicated what Jesus paid for.
Nothing in this life is more powerful than the blood. Our old born from Adam self was nailed to the cross. We have been raised into new life — empowered to overcome ALL the works of the enemy.
It’s time to recognize the areas where the enemy has had permission to move right back in, put into practice all you’ve heard, and renew your mind in the Truth that sets you free.
