The “wait” is only hard when your focus is on where you wish you were instead of where God has you and what He wants to do in and through you right where you are.
I used to fight with the wait — wishing, praying, and sometimes even allowing my thoughts to tell me I should be further along or in a different place based on my ideas. It made life feel incredibly frustrating and heavy.
One day, during a defeating mind war, the Holy Spirit whispered to my heart; He said, “relent.”
I felt that word come in with peace and power!
To gain a better depth and understanding of what God was saying, I looked up the detailed meaning — Relent: as in to succumb; to cease resistance. Synonyms of relent: submit, surrender, yield…
Wow!
My inner war was instantly silenced followed by a heart posture to surrender my fight and trust Him.
As I pressed into what He was saying and chose to “relent” to where He had me, a beautiful thing took place — I began to see what He was doing in each moment and how important it was for me to embrace His process. I stopped seeing the wait as a block that led me to frustration and saw them as vital steps filled with purpose.
Learning to yield to the Holy Spirit and trust that I’m always exactly where I’m supposed to be unless God says otherwise is what has opened me up to see that I’m actually never waiting for the final destination or the vision to unfold because there’s so much to see and learn along the way.
I’m never in waiting — I’m in training.
I don’t fight my way out or try to skip ahead — God is never late; He’s always at work, and when I live in rhythm with His perfect will, I am saturated with His perfect peace.
I’ve learned to trust God and the importance of embracing each season as He shapes and sharpens me…The wait I may experience on each step no longer feels discouraging because I’m too busy living in sync with my Heavenly Father, embracing the vital process of becoming who He’s designed me to be.
Each season of my life has a purpose, and that purpose positions me for what’s up ahead.
This mindset shift has opened up the floodgates of joy in my life, even when it seems like I’m nowhere close to the vision God planted in my heart.
Are you feeling the weight of the wait?
Give God your full attention and relent to your very personal, tailor-made process, and allow the Holy Spirit to give you new eyes to see that you’re not in the waiting — you’re in training.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” -Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NIV)
