A Life Vision Gives Us Clear Direction

I have neglected my upstairs hallway since we moved into this house over nine years ago. It’s either remained empty, or has been my dump zone as I clean out closets and under beds. It’s never had any other purpose. It’s either been empty or cluttered. After all these years, I finally have a vision for it!

This picture is not even close to the end result.

I’m in process of laying out the details, annnnnd I’ll probably rearrange 857 times, but those are just the little adjustments I will be making along the way.

It reminds me of life, and how important it is to get a vision. Without one, we lack direction and often times don’t go anywhere, or we end up in so many different directions we are a cluttered mess with no real purpose.

Much like my hallway.

Up until a few days ago, I really didn’t give it much thought or time. I just went through the motions of life with no clear direction for this space. Once I stopped and sat in my hallway, the vision unfolded and I knew the direction I would go.

I began to clear away the clutter and slowly lay out the details. With the bigger vision in mind, I now know what I’m looking for, which means I can make decisions that will take me toward the vision, instead of away from it.

When we stop going through the motions of life, sit with God and give Him the time to speak into our lives, a vision for our life is born.

When we get a vision for our life, we have clearer direction.

Ephesians 2:10 says:

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.”

God has good things that He predestined each one of us for, and we won’t discover what that is until we give Him the space to reveal it to us.

From there, we can keep that final picture at the forefront of our minds, helping us navigate through our day so we know which direction to go. All of a sudden, each decision we make takes us towards that vision as the details unfold.

Sometimes we will need to scale back and rearrange some things, but with the vision in mind, we will see the end result in it’s proper time.

For those who’ve been given a vision and it just seems to be further and further from your reach, God is in the details. Don’t let weariness and doubt set in. Don’t despise the days of small beginnings, God delights in the work you are doing as you lay out each detail.

Maybe you have derailed your focus and lost sight of the vision. It’s ok. Scale back, make some adjustments and get back on track!

This verse is for you to hold onto as you rest in His timing, and trust Him—

“This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.” Habakkuk 2:3 (NLT)
